SCENEINT: Mark (Hawke) is sitting on a couch watching TV in his apartment. His younger brother Josh (Merriman) comes into the room.

JOSH
Look, Mark. Youve gotta get off this couch sometime. Were out of food.

Mark reaches into his pocket and hands Josh his wallet.

JOSH
Mark. Look, Im over it. Dad died. Its OK.

MARK

No. Its not. Its my fault.

SCENE--- INT: Duncan (Renfro) and his girlfriend, Sara, (Sagemiller) are eating at a restaurant when all of a sudden, a crazed man storms in with a gun.

CRAZED SHOOTER

Gimme all your money!

He fires a shot into the air. Everyone else in the restaurant screams. The shooter turns to Duncan and Sara.

CRAZED SHOOTER

You.

Sara looks at him in complete disbelief.

CRAZED SHOOTER
This is a gift, from me to you.

The shooter raises his gun at Sara. Sara and Duncan scream. We hear a gun fire and the screen fades to black

SCENE: EXT--- Shannon and her friend Cooper (Douglas) are sitting on the front porch of a torched house.

SHANNON

What the fuck did I do to deserve this?

COOPER

Its not your fault. You can stay with me.

We can see the mailman walking up the front walkway.

MAILMAN

What happened here?

SHANNON
My house burned down.

MAILMAN
Jesus.

SHANNON
My mail?

The mailman is just staring at the house.

SHANNON
Hello?

MAILMAN
Oh. Sorry.

The mailman hands her a letter and walks off. Shannon opens it and looks at the contents and screams. She drops the letter and we see what it says:

SCENE: EXT--- Wayside High School

Despite what we were shown earlier, Wayside High is now standing, just the way it used to be.

Shannon and Cooper walk up to the school and see Duncan sitting on the front steps.

SHANNON
Duncan?

Duncan gets up and runs and hugs Shannon.

DUNCAN

They killed her.

SHANNON
Who?

DUNCAN

My girlfriend.

A car pulls up in the parking lot. Mark steps out of the drivers side seat. Josh steps out of the passengers side.

SHANNON
You brought a kid with you? Are you nuts?

MARK
I dont want him left alone. Hes better where I can protect him.

Suddenly, two kids step out from around the side of the school. Pete (Clayton) and Sean (Franco).

PETE
Here to see the Ghost of Wayside?

SEAN
Oooooh! Scary!

PETE
You wont last 5 minutes.

SEAN
Last year, people were killed in here.

PETE
No one has ever come out alive.

MARK
Except us.

PETE
Youre the survivors?

MARK
Yeah. Weve got some unfinished business to attend to.

SEAN
Why in Gods name would you return?

MARK
They killed my father.

DUNCAN
My girlfriend

SHANNON
My son.

Mark and Duncan look at Shannon.

SHANNON
His name was TJ.

MARK
Was it.

SHANNON
Yes.

DUNCAN
I thought he was

SHANNON
It was a mistake.

COOPER
Lets go inside and get this over with.

MARK
You sure you want to come?

COOPER

Im backing Shannon. All the way.

SHANNON
You dont have to.

DUNCAN

Whyd you bring him?

JOSH
I can take care of myself.

MARK
He watches enough horror films, hell be fine. I dont want him leaving my sight.

PETE
Were coming with you.

SEAN
Are you crazy?

PETE
Dont be such a bitch. Were going.

MARK
Alright. Lets unleash hell.

SCENE: INT--- Wayside High

Mark steps through the front door first, followed by Josh. Shannon is right behind, followed by Pete, Sean, Duncan, and Cooper.

COOPER

This place is freaky.

DUNCAN

You have no idea.

The door slams shut behind them.

SEAN
Were gonna die!

Mark turns and snaps at Sean.

MARK
Shut up, or youll be first.

PETE
Hes just joking Sean. No ones gonna die.

MARK
Someone will die. Its inevitable.

Suddenly, they hear a strange voice.

STRANGE VOICE
Who are you?

MARK
What?

They begin to follow a wooshing sound into the auditorium.

SHANNON
This brings back memories.

DUNCAN
What was that one guys name? The fat guy?

MARK
Damien.

DUNCAN
Yeah. Thats him.

SHANNON
And TJ.

MARK
and Ellie.

JOSH
Hey Mark. Look up!

Josh is pointing at the ceiling. There is a pentagram drawn there.

PETE
Fuck.

MARK
Thats not good.

The door to the auditorium slams shut. Mark pulls a gun out from behind his back. Josh does the same.

MARK
Just what I taught you, OK?

JOSH

OK.

SHANNON
You brought guns?

MARK
At least we can take out the zombies.

Sean and Pete get up on the stage and pull the curtain open.

PETE
This way, no surprises.

MARK
In this building. There is no such thing as no surprises.

SEAN

I found a way out.

SCENE: INT--- Hallway. The group is walking through the hallway.

SHANNON
Mark. What exactly are we looking for.

MARK
Something to destroy. Once and for all.

DUNCAN
We should split up. Two groups.

PETE

Bad idea.

MARK
No. We can cover more ground in two groups. Duncan, youll take Pete and Sean. Shannon and Cooper can come with Josh and I.

PETE
Can we have a gun?

Duncan pulls out a gun from behind his back.

DUNCAN
Mark and I think alike.

MARK
Smart boy.

SCENE: INT--- Classroom.

Duncan, Sean, and Pete walk into the room.

PETE
This fucking sucks.

DUNCAN

Shhhh. Hear that?

SEAN
What?

Duncan looks up and sees blood accumulating on the ceiling.

PETE

Thats some scary shit.

DUNCAN

You havent even seen the tip of the iceberg yet.

The boys walk further into the room. The camera moves to show the door behind them and we can see Sara standing in the doorway. The boys turn around and scream. She doesnt seem menacing.

SARA
Duncan.

DUNCAN
Sara? What are you doing?

SARA
Ive come to save you.

DUNCAN
Youre dead.

SARA
Im always with you.

DUNCAN
You were shot.

PETE
Shoot her again.

SARA
Please Duncan. Listen to me. One will betray, one will die, one will fall, one will survive.

DUNCAN
What about the other three?

SARA
That, I do not have the answer to.

SEAN

Out of my way, bitch.

Sean tries to move through Sara. She turns into a huge outrageous monster and grabs Sean and throws him against the wall, walks over and starts eating him.

PETE
Holy Fucking God Damn! Im outta here!

Pete runs out of the room. Duncan is shocked.

:PETE
Are you coming?

Sara turns to look at Duncan.

SARA
Go. I cannot control Wayside. If you dont leave you will die.

DUNCAN

I cant.

Pete runs in.

PETE
Oh Yes you can.

Pete grabs Duncan and pulls him out of the room.

PETE
Change of plans. Were regrouping.

SCENE: INT--- Cafeteria.

Mark, Josh, Shannon, and Cooper walk in.

MARK
Brings back memories doesnt it?

SHANNON
I wonder where the zombies are.

Frank (Segal) steps out from around a corner.

FRANK
No zombies. Just me.

JOSH
Dad?

MARK
It cant be you.

FRANK
And why not?

MARK
You were killed.

FRANK
By who?

MARK
Uh

JOSH

Youre not dead?

FRANK
Of course not. You came to rescue me!

JOSH
Dad?

SHANNON
Dont fall into the trap Mark. You know hes lying.

MARK
Then what happened?

FRANK
I survived the shooting. Im standing right here.

Frank approaches the group.

FRANK
Im not here to hurt you.

MARK
Then why are you here of all places?

FRANK
Its complicated.

Josh begins to cry and he runs to embrace Frank.

MARK
Josh! No!

Josh jumps into Franks arms and they hug.

JOSH
Its really you!

COOPER
This is getting really weird.

Frank starts to cry.

FRANK
Ive missed you guys so much.

MARK
Why are you here?

FRANK
How are you?

MARK

Stop avoiding the question. Why are you here?

At this point, Duncan and Pete run into the room.

PETE
OK. What the fuck is going on and who the fuck is that?

DUNCAN
The other guy died.

MARK
I knew he would.

DUNCAN
Whos that?

MARK
My dad.

DUNCAN
Didnt he die?

SHANNON
Apparently not. Hes here. Flesh and blood.

JOSH
Hes even got a pulse. Zombies dont have pulses.

(pause)

PETE
No. But vampires do.

Josh looks up at his dad, who smiles, revealing no fangs.

JOSH
See?

Pete reaches into his shirt and pulls out a cross. He holds it up to Frank who immediately looks away.

MARK
A cross? Please.

PETE
Look at me!

Mark notices that Frank isnt looking.

MARK
Josh. Come here.

JOSH
No!

MARK
Josh. NOW!

PETE
Look at ME!

Frank turns to Pete and we can tell that his is, in fact, a vampire.

MARK
Shit.

FRANK
Looks like the kid was right. Youd be surprised the things I can do.

SHANNON
Never underestimate Wayside High.

Frank grabs Josh, who screams, and makes a move to bite him. He stops, drops Josh to the ground and looks at Shannon.

FRANK
Be my baby.

Frank uses "the force" to bring Shannon to him. Cooper charges after her as does Mark. Before Frank can do any permanent damage to Shannon, Cooper is kicking the shit out of him. Mark pulls Shannon and Josh away.

SHANNON
That girl teaches Self-Defense classes. If anyone can kick the shit out of someone, its her.

Frank seems to be losing the fight until he, once again, uses the force to lift Cooper off the ground. He then, violently, throws her into the ceiling where she promptly breaks her neck and falls to the ground again.

SHANNON
Cooper!

Just then, Sara walks in the room.

SARA
Two down. Five to go.

FRANK
My darling. Glad you could make it.

SARA
Just finishing my lunch.

MARK
This is where we fire our weapons.

Josh and Duncan point their guns at Sara, Mark at Frank.

PETE

What are you waiting for? Shoot the bitches!

Duncan and Josh unload into Sara who is hit by a wide array of bullets knocking her to the ground. She turns to dust and dies.

Mark fires at Frank, who once again, uses the force and stops the bullet dead in its tracks.

FRANK
Its useless.

MARK
What are you?

FRANK
I am the Ghost of Wayside.

(pause)

PETE
Oh please. Thats the dumbest thing Ive ever heard.

MARK
Its true. He was the principal for 20 years.

SHANNON
But then who was the ghost last time?

Duncan points his gun at Mark and Shannon.

DUNCAN

This is where you scream.

SCENE: INT--- Freezer

Shannon, Mark, Josh, and Pete are being locked in the freezer.

MARK
This makes no sense! Who are you?

DUNCAN
Remember hearing the story about the kid who played baseball here and got hit in the head by a baseball and died?

MARK
That was you?

DUNCAN
Yep.

MARK
What did we do to deserve this?

FRANK
For you, it runs in the family. I killed myself 5 years ago, when I retired. Fueled by Wayside, I was able to raise Josh. When I was killed again, I saw your destiny. Im saving you from your destiny Mark. You too Josh.

SHANNON
Whyd you kill my son?

FRANK
It wasnt meant to be. TJ wasnt meant to have a son.

SHANNON
Why me?

FRANK
Because you fucked the vice-principal to make the grade. Looks like youre gonna fail this time.

MARK
You slept with the vice-principal to get better grades?

SHANNON
So sue me.

PETE
Me next! Please me! Can I be included in the unneccesary dialogue?

FRANK
Youre just here out of pure stupidity.

PETE

Stupidity, huh?

(pause)

Pete pretends to look behind Duncan and Frank.

PETE
Sean! Quick! Shoot the bastards!

Duncan and Frank turn to look behind them and Pete charges them, followed by Mark. Pete tackles Duncan, rips his cross off of his neck and stabs him in the eye. Mark kicks Frank across the room, grabs a lunchroom chair and whacks him up against the wall. Mark strikes Frank repeatedly with the chair.

MARK
Fuck my destiny.

Frank falls to the ground, semi lifeless.

MARK
Dodge this.

Mark pulls out his gun and shoots Frank in the head. Meanwhile, Pete has turned Duncan into stone by stabbing him with his cross.

MARK
Funny, you didnt seem like the religious type.

PETE
Im not. Its more of a ghetto thing.

JOSH
Can we go now?

SHANNON
No. Theres one more thing we have to do.

The four of them sit on the floor. Shannon reads from an exorcism book. We can hear screams and shouting that are louder than what Shannon is saying. This goes on for several moments until a big red bolt of light shoots out from the floor.

SCENE: INT--- Lunchroom

Moments later.

SHANNON
Hopefully, we wont have to go through that again.

SCENE: EXT--- Outside Wayside High, the sun is rising.

MARK
Well, that was a nice change. No jumping out of burning buildings or anything.

PETE
Mark. Can I stay with you?

MARK
Why?

PETE
Well, technically, Im homeless.

SHANNON
Really?

PETE
Yeah. I died 27 years ago and my family moved away. But, when you did that exorcism thing, Wayside released me.

MARK
Youre for real?

PETE
I used to be the protector. Id keep people away. Id scare kids away with tales of whatever. Sean would help. I was always a good guy.

JOSH
Can we trust him?

Pete pulls a cross out of his pocket and puts it on.

PETE
That better?

SHANNON
I trust him.

MARK
You were dead for 27 years?

Fade to Black.
